As the organizor of the 1998 Soccer World Cup, France
and Paris needed a world class stadium to complement the 45 000 seats Parc des
Princes near the Bois de Boulogne . The Stade de France, looking like a flying
saucer, accomodates 80 000 visitors and can host all kinds of sports and cultural
events. The Stade de France has been inaugurated on January
28th 1988 with a France/Spain soccer game. It hosted the France 98 World Soccer
Cup final on July 12th 1998 and saw the historic victory of France 3/0 over Brazil.
The Stade de France is located a few kilometers north of Paris in the city of
Saint-Denis, a city also known for its 12th century cathedral which used to be
the burial place of the kings of France. |
